WordPress or Blogger, what is the difference?

Like everything else, this response is largely subjective. But to help you decide once and for all, we are going to buy several aspects to see that with this WordPress vs Blogger it helps you see which one best suits your needs. The points that we are going to take into account are:

Definition of WordPress and Blogger

Ease of getting started

Variety of Templates

Personalization

Price

Monetization

SEO optimization

Technical aspects: storage, domain, and migration

But, before starting, it is important to understand that within WordPress, there are two options. And it is not the same wordpress.com as wordpress.org, although it may seem a minor detail. And even more important, understand what WordPress and Blogger consist of.

Let's go by parts!

What is WordPress and what is Blogger

Taking up the thread of what we said before, WordPress has two "options" to say it in some way. The .org version is geared towards web creation (where we can also host a blog) and is used by most brands. But, it is paid although it is considered the best CMS for blogging.

Anyway, if our idea is to start writing our blog, beyond having a web page with other pages (such as services, who we are, prices, products, etc.), we have WordPress.com

It is focused on creating a blog through content management, in a simple way. It has many templates, it is simple and intuitive. In other words, it allows us to get a space dedicated to uploading blog posts where we can talk about a topic, show articles, receive comments, and order by categories/tags.

On the other hand, we have Blogger, the option of Google itself (which is said fast). It allows us to create a blog, whether corporate or personal. It is very oriented to SMEs that want to launch content marketing.

It is also widely used for personal branding or very specific interests (niche markets). Thus, it is usually chosen by many entrepreneurs. They are usually hosted in the BlogSpot subdomain, it is fast and intuitive.

Yes, both are free. Although this topic, we will see it more thoroughly in later points. Let's continue with the comparison.

Easy to use

Both are easy to start, they are free and in a short time, we will have our blog ready to upload content. It is a matter of registering, choosing a name for the blog, and entering the content manager. In less than half an hour you can be at the foot of the canyon and look at templates with ease.

Perhaps in the case of Blogger, it is even easier, because it has a very simplified structure and only asks us for a Gmail account to start. Still, WordPress.org doesn't have much to envy you. It usually goes by tastes. Many times, fans of the most specific content go to bloggers and designers to Word Press.

And going back to WordPress.org, it's about another world. We need to install it on a and have a domain. It is not complicated, but it requires more notions of web design. It is best if we want to set up a website, but we do not need it if we only opt for the blog.

WordPress vs. blogger

Variety of Templates

If we talk about the blog, Blogger is the one with the least templates, little updated, and less varied. As for WordPress, there are more, both free and paid, and it allows us to vary the personality of our space more. In this aspect, WordPress wins, for the many options.

In the org version, it has multiple design options, being a window open to the world. But, as we mentioned before, keep in mind that it is paid and requires notions (since we created a web page).

Personalization

In this case, the victory is for Blogger. Yes, WordPress.org runs a hand across both Blogger's and WordPress.com's faces. But if we talk about a blog space, Google's is the winner.

In the case of WordPress.com, we can only change the template. And although it offers variety, Blogger allows you to touch the templates and customize them.

Price and Monetization

If we talk about not wanting to "spend a dime" for our Blog, the best is Blogger. What you see is what there is, nothing more and nothing less. You have access to everything it offers you from the beginning and it is completely free.

As for WordPress, the blog .org version is completely free. But, it offers us the option of increasing the customization and gradually moving towards a version of .com, since this is directly paid.

That is, if we do not want to pay anything, both Blogger and WordPress allow us that option. The second, allow us to pay to customize it more.

As far as monetization is concerned, Blogger being part of Google hosts Ad Sense automatically. That is the mandatory space for advertising on Google banners. It is not that they are going to ruin the space, but Blogger is configured to give space to Google Ads.

In the case of WordPress, you cannot place ads from any of the media. In the .org web version, we are free to manage to advertise, either its own or that of third parties.

SEO optimization

We can understand that Blogger, being a service of Google itself, will index before. Which means that the content will appear earlier in this search engine. But, there is nothing that shows that being from Google, it has better positioning than WordPress.

We can say that they are on equal terms, and both positions the same. In this case, we should always take care of titles and the use of keywords.

Obviously, as in the other cases, WordPress.org always wins for being paid and having greater freedom (but we recommend it for the web). If we talk that we only want to blog, we would have a tie.

WordPress or blogger which one is better

Technical aspects

Both Blogger and WordPress.com will be domains within the brand itself. This represents that we have the name that we choose, next to the. BlogSpot or .wordpress. Being free, they are hosted by the brand itself.

In the case of WordPress.org, yes, or yes we need to have our domain since it is focused on having our website, not just a blog. That means that storage depends on what we hire.

If we talk about Blogger, we have a maximum size of 15 gigabytes for free. We must take into account that it is the space that we share with the rest of Google services that we have with that account, such as Gmail or Drive.

In the case of WordPress.com, we have 3 gigabytes, which only for storage of blog entries and content, is still a lot and is dedicated only to this.

Depending on whether our Gmail account is very full of space, we will be more interested in one option or another. But, they are both generous. The only weak point of Blogger is that if we wanted to migrate the blog, we would lose the template and the customizations we have made.

WordPress vs Blogger, which one to choose...

To end this brand-new WordPress vs. Blogger duel, let's take a brief look at everything we've talked about. And so, to see if you finish deciding between ease, price, templates, and uses.

Briefly, remember that both WordPress and Blogger are free, easy to use, and with a variety of templates. We only have differences in monetization, since Blogger has Ad Sense, and the price, that WordPress allows us to improve the plan if we want to design a website.

So who wins this WordPress vs. Blogger?

Final score

We could recommend Blogger if we want to promote a Blog (and not a website), non-profit or personal brand. Above all, focused on talking about niche topics and offering more than just a generalist medium.

On the other hand, WordPress.com is usually used more at the corporate level, such as SMEs, and sectors related to graphic design, art, or marketing. Also, the great difference is that if we later want to go beyond the blog and have our website, we will have many facilities to take this step.

At Einatec, we are made up of a graphic and web design team that works with all kinds of clients. We recommend that you take a look at both options and choose the one in which you feel most comfortable. Another option is to look for blogs that would look like yours, to finish deciding.

I think both the blogger or wordpress are the best options, it entirely relies on your business needs. If you want the customizations, then go for the WordPress, otherwise you can choose the Blogger!

I think Wordpress is best option because it has more functionality because there are many plugins and it is up to date. Blogger I see it a bit abandoned and without improving the service after years.

In a nutshell, the Blogger platform is better than WordPress when you are creating a blog for no other reason than you want to write. If you are OK with the limited features offered by the Blogger platform, then this is a great choice. For making money or creating a long term impact, WordPress platform is better.
